The chess coach that learns
from your games

Most apps let you play chess. ChessIt makes you better at it — reviewing your real games, finding the mistakes you keep repeating, and training exactly those until they stop happening.

Every learner is a pawn on the march. Reach the far rank and you promote.

Eight phases · a boss to beat at the end of each

What you get

Coaching, not just chess

Every feature ends in an explanation — that is the whole point.

Learns from your games

Import from Chess.com and Lichess. Your real losses become your lessons — the blunders you keep repeating come back as puzzles until you fix them for good.

Engine judges, coach explains

The engine decides what is true. The coach tells you why, in plain language — what the move attacked, what you missed, the habit that stops it happening again.

A path with a destination

Eight phases from Pawn to Grandmaster, each guarded by a boss you must beat. Ratings use the same FIDE maths as international chess, so your number means something real.

A 20-minute plan, daily

A fresh scoresheet each morning, rebuilt around the mistakes you keep making. No endless feeds, no guessing what to work on.

Coaches your real board

Point your camera at a physical board and get feedback on the pieces in front of you. The calculation gym trains what screens usually skip: seeing moves ahead in your head.

Play friends by username

Challenge the people you know, right where you train. Friend games are rated like real chess and get the full coach review afterwards.

Or just play

Sometimes you want a game, not a lesson. Just Play has no prompts and no plan — and your coach still reviews it quietly afterwards, so even the fun games make you better.

A coach with a name

Name your coach whatever you like and give it a face. Same voice every day, explaining every mistake — it just happens to be Stockfish doing the judging behind it.

Getting started

Three steps, then it runs itself

Find your level

A 15-minute placement test — adaptive puzzles and board-vision drills — gives you a starting rating and a profile of your strengths. Never played before? Rules School teaches every rule first.

Follow the daily scoresheet

Open the app, press one gold button, and work down the list. Twenty minutes a day beats three hours on a Sunday, and the streak is there to protect the habit.

Feed it your real games

Import from Chess.com or Lichess. Every imported game sharpens the coach's picture of you as a player — and the training bends towards exactly what keeps costing you points.

Already play online?

Bring your Chess.com and Lichess games with you

Link Chess.com or Lichess and the engine gets to work immediately — no guessing at your level, no generic drills. It mines the patterns behind your losses (the hanging pieces, the missed forks, the endgames you let slip), and those patterns choose your puzzles, shape your lessons, and become personal drills. Your first plan is ready within a minute.

Brand new to chess?

Free lessons: the rules, the openings, and the tactics

Eleven short lessons teach the game by doing — every rule from how the pieces move to checkmate, the three principles that beat memorising openings, and the five tactics that decide most beginner games. Make the moves on a real board and each lesson checks them for you. No account needed.

The vocabulary

The chess words nobody explains

Everyone around a chess board seems to already know what a Sicilian is, or a royal fork, or zugzwang. Nobody tells you. So we wrote all 80 of them down in plain English — with a board diagram wherever a picture beats a sentence.

Quiet by design

No chat. No strangers. No noise.

Most chess sites are a place to meet people. ChessIt is a place to get better, so it is built the other way round: nobody can message you, nobody can find you, and the only way to reach a new opponent is an invite one of you deliberately sent. That is not a mode to switch on — it is how the app is built, enforced in the database itself.

No chat. Not a setting — no code.

There is no messaging anywhere in ChessIt: no chat, no comments, no reactions, no profile text. Nothing to mute, nothing to report, and nothing a future update quietly turns back on.

Nobody can look you up

No player directory, no search, no "who is online", no matchmaking pool. Knowing a username gets a stranger precisely nowhere — a challenge from someone you have not played creates nothing and notifies nobody.

One way in, and you hold it

The only route to a new opponent is an invite link you deliberately sent, or one sent to you. Coaches work the same way: the student generates a code and hands it over in person. Nobody can ask.

Removing someone is instant, and undoable

Cut any connection without a reason, a confirmation screen, or telling the other person. Tapped it by mistake? Undo it — consent that cannot be withdrawn is not consent.

Which means it works for both ends of the room. An adult gets a training app with no trash talk, no notifications from people they have never met, and nothing to mute. A parent gets an account they do not have to supervise — because there is no feature to supervise.

The trade is real and worth stating plainly: you cannot play a random opponent here. Until a friend joins you, your games are against bots — and there is one at every strength from beginner to well past club level.

Built by a dad and son

We started it for ourselves — one of us learning, one of us building, both of us arguing about what belongs in it. No ads, no dark patterns, no pay-to-win — just the coaching a serious learner actually needs.
